Karwan University’s (KU) aim is to create an environment which supports, prepares, and encourages male and female Afghans to pursue their educational and professional goals at home and abroad. Before KU’s official establishment in 2007 the Karwan Education Group had been teaching Computer Science / IT and Soft Skill English courses throughout Kabul since the late 1990s and that has enabled KU to perfect its teaching methodology through these years.
In 2007, The Karwan University (KU) officially registered with the Ministry of Higher Education providing diplomas in Soft Skills, Information Technology, and in Business Administration in its Koi Marquez campus in Kabul. Since 2007 KU has graduated over 1,500 students in their Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Soft Skill / English Language, Diploma in Business Administration, and Executive Diploma Programs.
Since 2009, KU began offering four-year degrees in Computer Science, Political Science, Law, and Business. KU also offers courses in English and Engineering. In order to provide a higher quality education for our growing student population, a new campus, with an infrastructure that is second to none was built in Deh Buri, Kabul. KU’s new campus is located within the walking distance of Kabul’s major educational centers and facilities. KU graduated its first group of Bachelor’s Degree students in the Spring of 2013 with about 100 plus students. KU employs over 35 full-time and part-time lecturers for the Bachelor’s degree programs. KU offers Soft Skill and Computer courses for FREE to all BBA students as an integral part of its Foundation Courses and also provide interested students to carry on the course resulting in a Diploma in Information Technology (DEL), Diploma in English Language (DEL), Certificate in English Language (CEL) and TOEFL training.
KU has provided advanced diplomas and certificates in a variety of fields and specialties since 2007. Information Technology (IT) and Business Administration are two of KU’s focus areas; since 2008, KU’s DIT program has graduated over 250 students, with an additional 260 receiving certificates from CIT courses. In 2014, KU expanded the Computer Science Faculty to include a Bachelor’s degree.
1. Our contribution to Economic Development:
In response to the increasingly high demand for quality higher education in Afghanistan, and the need for the development and delivery of capacity building plus an enhancement course each for different entities - Karwan University was established way back in 2007. In a country that is war stricken since time immemorial - making people realize that only education can bring holistic and sustainable growth and development is a Herculean task. Karwan has one simple aim – to be an integral and significant part of the nation building. We are into the Service sector and we believe that we understand the meaning of service. Karwan University’s services are for Economic, Community, and Human Development.
Karwan University has opened the gates for creating quality manpower for Afghanistan’s future. Finance is the life blood and infrastructure is the backbone of nation building. But education is the brain – which ‘runs’ the whole structure, every system, and all processes. At Karwan, we are incubating, nurturing, and grooming the torch bearers of our future.
A nation’s future is in the quality and quantity of international standard employable citizens and we at Karwan are affianced in our relentless pursuit for such an endeavor since 2007.
2. Our contribution to Social Development:
We have created more than 100 jobs within our organization as our employees and have at least brightened and enhanced the ASK (Ability, Skill, and Knowledge) factors of 2000+ of our past students who are now employed with various organizations all over the world. We are providing our students with the ‘Knowledge and Knowhow’ that helps them work for numerous national and international Private organizations, Government organizations, Public organizations, national and international NGOs and other organizations for various Projects that are directly and indirectly related to Afghanistan’s Economic Developments; that in turn is creating more and more employable citizens in a cyclic way in Afghanistan which is again adding up to the further developments in both the urban and rural sectors. A good number of our students are also taking up entrepreneurship and creating jobs too.
3. Our contribution to Socio-economic Development:
Karwan University being an educational establishment, encourages numerous other small businesses to grow in and around it such as, the Canteen, Cafeteria, Stationary Store, Barber Shop, Internet Cafe, Convenience Store, Carpenter Shop, Tailoring Shop, Dry-cleaner Service, Electric Shop, and etc. thus providing opportunity for small business development plus employment for few.
Karwan University also has its own School which is a non-profit organization and this is a small practice for creating a bigger world class school later on for developing the future students of Afghanistan from their grass-root levels. Employees here are around 50 odd.
This way, Karwan University is playing a vital role in increasing the national GDP/GNP apart from itself being a profit generating business organization which pays all the taxes regularly.
4. Our contribution to Community development:
Delivering education itself is perhaps one of the most noble causes and deeds for the society. Doctors save human lives, engineers make that life better, and people of different fields serve mankind in their respective ways. One of the most common things all professionals go through is education; the base of their services – the penultimate building block for a society. This is what we strive to do. And we do it maintaining the highest standard that is humanely possible given the internal, micro, as well as macro factors that abounds us.
A community is only as good as its people are; and its people are as good as its education is.
Painstakingly handpicked scholars and academicians from the world over are chosen and added as stars in the galaxy of our faculty members who ‘caress and groom’ our students. We presently are perhaps the only University with 90% foreign Lecturers in a fulltime list. The Lecturers deliver world class education via perhaps the most rigorous Course Outline delivered through thoroughly planned out Semesters with text books of global standards.
We at Karwan do not believe in discrimination of any sort and think of it as a social evil. Therefore we are open to and welcome students & faculties from every tribe, sect & race. We provide scholarship to 10 students each from 10 backward provinces.
We at Karwan strongly criticize and oppose Economic Discrimination and therefore have kept all our courses which are delivered at very nominal rates but conducted by the very highly qualified, experienced faculty members; within the best infrastructure of any private institute. A system of discount is also catered to and provided to the students with stringent finance and we encourage healthy competition by giving scholarships to the toppers of each class.
We provide rocket fast free internet facility for all our students 24/7 to make them abreast and ahead in providing the most up to date knowledge. We also provide books at discounted prices.
We give special preferences to physically handicapped people when recruiting our staffs provided the handicap is ‘not an obstruction’ for quality services. We also provide higher salaries to our lower grade employees from ‘poorer backgrounds’. We are strictly against child labor and maintain the same policy even when choosing our suppliers for anything.
We also give preferences to widows provided they have the same qualities needed for the work. Karwan University is an equal opportunity employer and maintains this to the core.
